Leiden is on the move!
Leiden Vaart! is delighted to invite you to the official opening of the 2026 boating season in the charming city centre of Leiden.
On Sunday 29 March, we will ring in the new boating year together. This year, the opening will take place at Stichting De Leidse Rederij. The tradition is taking on a floating character: each year, the opening will take place at the quay of a different shipping company in the city.
All proceeds from the sale of canal cruise tickets will go to charity! Together, we’re not just sailing for fun, but also for the city!
The charity of 2026
This year’s charity is “Onder water in Leiden”. This residents’ initiative began by hanging cat climbing ropes on the quay walls in Leiden’s Havenwijk neighbourhood. Since then, the initiative has grown, and its activities now include surveying the various aquatic animals in Leiden’s canals.
